Roundhay completes the arc of North Leeds that starts with Horsforth in the West, followed by West Park and Lawnswood, Adel, then Alwoodley and Moortown. Virtually as self-contained a centre as Headingley, Roundhay is another of the city's most desirable residential areas and has for many many years been one of the most popular areas of Leeds.
Roundhay is probably best known as a suburb because of the eponymous Park. The latter is home to the Tropical World Glass House that houses different ecosystems from around the world including tropical and desert areas. It also has other varied wildlife such as the Rolling Stones, Madonna and Robbie Williams occasionally dropping in and its most famous (?) long-time resident is probably Sir Jimmy Saville.
The centre boasts a huge mix of local pubs, sophisticated bars, up market restaurants offering every kind of international cuisine, plus more affordable street cafes. Nearby Oakwood provides a good range of shops and Tescos is within easy reach. Transport facilities are slightly better than adjacent Moortown and Alwoodley but again the multi car household predominates.
