Wortley, like a couple of the other areas mentioned in this guide, is a rather amorphous suburb. Sandwiched between the outer edges of the City Centre, Old Farnley and Armley it has the notorious Armley Gyratory roundabout as its border crossing and its most visible feature is Leeds Prison, which, although strictly speaking in Armley, is on the its border with Wortley.
Only five minutes into town in a cab, its a little greener that its neighbour Armley and benefits from some environmental improvements such as the damming of Wortley Beck that has created a wet land haven for wild fowl. With its northern edge only a five minute drive into the countryside via the Farnley / Pudsey borders it is so far a relatively undiscovered gem of a suburb with a wealth of local pubs, some fantastic take-aways and curry houses. Whilst there are no very large supermarkets in the suburb it does have a Netto and is only a short distance away from the Bramley Precinct and Kirkstall Valley Retail Centre. Bus routes are either along the Ring Road or into the City Centre, with the routes going further into the suburbs of Pudsey, Old and New Farnley.
The area is growing in popularity but bargain accommodation can still be found both for rental or purchase, although the variety of accommodation types is a little more limited than those in adjoining Armley.
